What’s In Your Heart?

Years ago while working on a project in Rwanda, a group of us traveled to the northern part of the country to see the mountain gorillas which reside within the borders of the Volcano National Park. The dramatic mountain landscape and scenic beauty make the drive from the capitol city of Kigali worthwhile.

We arrived at our lodge just after dark and from our room we could see the red, glowing top of Mt. Muhabura, which is an active volcano. Although beautiful to look at from a distance of 25 miles away, it’s what is inside the volcano that produces the danger, power, beauty and what really matters.

It’s the same with you and me. What’s on the inside of a believer makes all the difference. It matters in our decision-making, how we respond to circumstances, and it matters to those we encounter life every day.

Proverbs 4:23 reminds us: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

It’s all about the heart isn’t it? What is on the inside should be evident by our words and actions. The heart of a believer…

  • removes hindrances from their life.
  • lives with an eternal “yes” towards God.
  • has a stick-to-it-iveness about them.
  • produces fruit that remains.

What’s in your heart? Just like the volcano, it’s what is within the heart of a believer that is a powerhouse waiting to be revealed to the world around us.
